Danish Environmental Protection Agency report highlights need for consistent application of GreenScreen® for Safer Chemicals

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency recently published hazard assessments for 28 phosphorous flame retardant substances using GreenScreen as the foundation for its analysis.  We are pleased the authors of the study found GreenScreen to be a valuable approach for informing chemicals management decision-making. However, in applying GreenScreen the authors made changes to the method, and thus the hazard scores reported in the Danish EPA report are not GreenScreen BenchmarksTM. Clean Production Action considers only GreenScreen Benchmarks resulting from assessments following the GreenScreen Guidance and Resources to be valid scores for use in standard and certification frameworks which have chosen to incorporate GreenScreen. You can read more about the differences between GreenScreen and the approach used in the Danish EPA study in our Commentary.
