Hydrochloric acid compound

CAS#: 7647-01-0
Chemical Name: Hydrochloric acid

Chemical Synonyms: hydrogen chloride; muriatic acid. Note hydrochloric acid generally refers to the aqueous form, where hydrogen chloride refers to the gaseous form.

Primary Applications: Oil & Gas Production
1. Hydrogen chloride is a High Production Volume (HPV) industrial chemical. It can be synthesized by direct reaction of hydrogen and chlorine, by reaction of metal chlorides and acids, and as a by-product from many chemical manufacturing processes such as chlorinated hydrocarbons. It is sold commercially in gaseous or liquid forms at various concentrations. Anhydrous hydrogen chloride is mainly used to produce chlorinated compounds such as ethylene dichloride, vinyl chloride, etc. Aqueous forms are commonly used for oil well acidification and steel pickling
2. Hydrogen chloride is also naturally occurring in the environment by reaction of sea salt and acidic sulphate in the ocean, through atmospheric or aquatic degradation of organo-halongens, etc.
